BeneSleep Queen Mattress Encasement Review

BeneSleep Queen Mattress Encasement
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this due to the fact that it was a lot cheaper then other brands I had looked at and previously owned. This encasement is awesome!
PROS:
~Does not have the cheap, vinyl feel to it like more expensive brands do.
~Quiet
~Easy to put on (I put it on by myself on a queen size mattress in about 3 minutes)
~Well made (I was doing a lot of tugging on it since I was putting it on by myself...other brands have ripped, this one did not).
CONS:
It says that it is 17" deep, my mattress is a pillow top and is about 13.5" and this encasement fits it snugly. I would say that if your mattress is more than 15", this probably would be too small. I just don't see how you could fit a mattress closer to 17" in this encasement since it fits my bed almost perfectly.

For the price, I don't think you can beat it. I bought a vinyl one in the beginning and tossed it after one day because of the awful smell. It wasn't until much research later that I learn how toxic the off gassing from vinyl was. Then I found this which was much more moderately priced than the cotton or polyester covers. We had some bedbugs and my first reaction was to toss all the mattresses in the house. Then I read that it wasn't necessary since bedbugs hide in the cracks in floor/wall and will reinfect any new mattress. So then I vacuumed the entire room/mattress and launder all the sheets/pillow cases/stuff animals in HOT water then 40 mins in HIGH HEAT, then I silicone caulked the entire bottom baseboards in the room and any cracks or holes I saw. Then I covered all the mattresses with the evolon. It's been a week and so far so good. The mattress encasings don't make much sound and doesn't feel hot. It feels rough when I first opened it but after I put it on it was fine. I do suggest that if you have the newer mattresses with a mattress top that you get a deeper fit, like 12-15 inches instead of 9. I have an non-mattress top mattress and it was a snug fit.
Pillow cases are a little stiffer but that may be because I have tempurpedic pillows and they don't fill out the entire standard pillow case. It says that it can be washed and that the more you wash it, the softer it gets and is still effective against bedbugs so I will try it.

My husband recently made a trip to Michigan and was worried about bedbugs in the hotel even though the website that watches for the critters said no problems had been reported in the town. So he took along the travel size of this product as a precaution (he didn't use it). But it made him feel much safer to have it! I suspect all travelers, at least to big cities, should never be without it.

If you are buying these for dust mites or allergies I guess it would be fine. But if you are buying to protect your bed from bed bugs forget about it. Within three day we checked and they were ripped in the corners and every time I look there are holes in them that I didn't notice before. The allergy luxe from bed bath and beyond is sooooo much better. Wish I didn't waste my money on these.

J.T. Eaton 203 Bedbugs & Crawling Insects Killing Powder Review

J.T. Eaton 203 Bedbugs and Crawling Insects Killing Powder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It works, but you have to keep setting the powder along with another type of pesticide and it takes time for the powder to work. It works a lot better in areas made of wood. Also, the bed bugs don't die immediately. Like I said, it takes time (period of days for it to work). Put a bed bug in a jar with this stuff and just pay attention over the course of hours or days to try and figure out how long it takes to kill the bed bug.

SafeRest Hypoallergenic Zippered Certified Bed Bug Proof Box Spring Encasement With 360 Secure Zipper Feature 9" - Queen Size Review

SafeRest Hypoallergenic Zippered Certified Bed Bug Proof Box Spring Encasement With 360 Secure Zipper Feature 9 - Queen Size
Average Reviews:

Before I purchased this product, I had a different brand allergy-proof mattress encasement that caught on my bedframe and ripped within the first week of using it. This encasement is made of a stretchy fabric material, not the paper-thin material that most other encasements are made of. This is a very high quality encasement and I am very pleased with this purchase. Also, the zipper goes around 2 sides of the box spring, which made it very easy to put on by myself. SafeRest encasements are also more affordable than similar encasements of the same quality.

Protecting your box spring from invading bed bugs and dust mites requires something more than just your average zippered box spring encasement. SafeRest bed bug proof box spring encasements eliminate the entry or exit points many box spring covers fail to protect. Rather than disposing of expensive box springs, SafeRest encasements can be applied sealing off the box spring preventing bed bugs trapped inside from escaping. Over time, any trapped bed bugs will die of starvation due to the lack of a blood source. SafeRest box spring encasements, with a polyester surface material and waterproof membrane back coating, were specifically designed and lab tested for bed bug and allergy protection harnessing cutting edge Micro-Zippers along with breathable bed bug and dust mite proof materials. SafeRest's patent pending 360 Degree Secure Feature offers the ultimate in protection against bed bugs by eliminating the risk that the end zipper traveler will pull back exposing the box spring to bed bugs. This is realized by securing the end traveler with a fold-over Velcro flap covering it on all sides (360 Degrees). Through extensive research and development, SafeRest has created a better way to help prevent and treat bed bug infestations while at the same time providing real health benefits for those who suffer from daily allergy and asthma triggers. This premium level of protection has helped many with allergies and asthma to improve their health by providing a more sterile and allergen free sleep environment. SafeRest box spring encasements contain no vinyl or PVCs. To demonstrate SafeRest's commitment to quality, each product is backed by a full replacement 10-year warranty.

All Stop Dead Bed Bugs Contact Killing Spray :: Non-Toxic Eco-Friendly Bed Bug Spray Review

All Stop Dead Bed Bugs Contact Killing Spray :: Non-Toxic Eco-Friendly Bed Bug Spray
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been purchasing this product for about 7 months. I live in apartment housing (and purchased this product when I lived in one that the management refused to acknowledge that there was and infestation...)this is something that is needed just as one would keep essential cleaning products because the bedbug problem is steadly growing. A person can have bed bugs for quite some time before they realize that they do. It's no ones fault in particular, it is just that these little human vampires multiply at a rapid speed before they are even recognized also, they cannot be killed with your regular pestisides. "All Stop Dead Bed Bugs Contact Killing Spray" is very effective for elimination of these pesky creatures and for preventive measures; the fact that it is safe and non-toxic makes it ever better. The minty refreshing smell makes it a pleasure to just spray around the house. This product is much better, fool proof, and cost effective than having an exterminator come in and charge you approximately $275.00 for a shody treatment that causes you to have to leave your home for about 7 hours (and that is not a full treatment nor is it the only one you'll be paying for!!). I would recommend this product and the full kit (already purchased)if you are serious about preventing/getting rid of these horrible little pests without the trama of spending way too much money to exterminators that are going to cheat you out of the roof over your head. They evern have a special spray that stops the terrible itching from bites that have already occured.

PackTite Portable Bed Bug Killing Heater Unit Review

PackTite Portable Bed Bug Killing Heater Unit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this about four months ago to move out of a bedbug infested apartment building. Overall it really is a lifesaver and seems to be the ONLY product out there of its kind. From all my research, heat (>120 deg. F, >1 hr.) seems to be the only reliable method of killing bedbugs and eggs. At the peak of my move (which lasted a full month), I was continuously running this thing for days on end -- literally as I was packing, working, moving, sleeping, etc. So far (knock on wood), one month into my new place, we still seem to be bug free!!
Having said that, I did run into some problems in the beginning, so I thought I might relay my experience in case it might help the next person dealing with the horrible bedbug problem. The main problem I had was that the heater unit didn't work properly. It's a very cheap looking, plastic heater (made by third party I believe) that is mounted on its side with even cheaper metal clips to hang off the grill of the internal cage. Every time I plugged it in, it would start a little while, then stop. I'd have to wait an hour or so and start the whole process over again. The problem I discovered was that the heater wasn't designed to work this way and very quickly melted it's own plastic housing. Then, it didn't work at all. I wrote the company to complain, and to their credit, they mailed me a new heater free and paid for return shipping for the old one. The new heater, of course, looked exactly like the old one -- just as cheap! But, instead of mounting it with the included cheapo clips on its side, I cut the grill to allow the heater to just stand up normally, with the top sticking through the grill a little. This did the trick and the heater stayed on throughout the heating process! This was the only way I could get my heater to work; I don't see how the company's intended method can possibly work. But since then, the only other complaint I've had was that the metal legs poked through the exterior container fabric after couple uses. I just duck-taped the holes and it was fine.
For these two complaints, I'm giving it 4 stars. Other than that, I'd have to say this thing's really been a workhorse. I can't believe it's held together over so many nonstop, repeated uses. Of course, use this thing at your own discretion, but I've even used it for my computer, hard drives, electronics, books -- pretty much everything outside of food and perishables. Hope that helps.

PackTite Portable Heater uses patent pending heating technology to safely eliminate all stages of bed bugs by heating contents up to over 120 degrees F for a sustained period. PackTite is a safe, non-chemical way to treat your personal items for bedbugs and features a timer to select heating times of up to six hours. PackTite is designed to work as a preventive measure for travelers, especially frequent business travelers. Many hotels have low-level bed bug infestations that are very hard to detect by visual inspection. Careful travelers can place their luggage in the PackTite heater upon returning from a trip and PackTite will kill any bed bugs that have crawled into the luggage. Additionally, Packtite is an essential tool for those dealing with an active bed bug infestation in their home. Although I was quite distressed to have to purchase these products at all(downstairs neighbor had bedbugs),I was relieved to find these bedding encasements (mattress, boxspring and 2 pillows) that were much more reasonably priced than others I had browsed online and in big box stores. When my exterminator saw my set of encasements, he commented on how adequate they seemed and approved of them. They fit my pillow-top queen bed well, provide additional comfort and protection and I'm pleased to report that the situation has been satisfactorily resolved. Highly recommend!

I have been investing in better and better pillows for quite a few years now and I have learned that they are as important as your mattress. When a friend discovered that she had a bedbug problem she was embarassed, but hey, it happens. I have been using Protect-A-Bed covers on my pillows for over 5 years and have grown to trust them. It was important for her to have a set of pillow protectors as bugs and dust mites like to hide in pillows. The zippers on these covers are especially made to prevent the escape of begbugs (I HATE those litte guys!).
If you are spending fifty to a hundred dollars on your pillows (and a lot of people do) you might want to think about protecting them. It's not only the bugs that it protects you from, it also keeps your pillow clean and safe from dirt and grime. Well worth the cost.

Average Reviews:

This review is targeted towards people who have had an ongoing issue with mites and are desperate to hear from someone who has tried something that worked. I have spent thousands of dollars on various methods over the last ten years to try to get rid of my bug problem. I have tried: moving house, fumigation, throwing out all bedding, beds, linen, various chemicals and powders, vacuuming daily, showering twice a day (washing my bedding daily), listerine, menthol crystals, diatimacious earth, neem oil, baking soda, windex... you name it, I've tried it.

A couple of years ago I kind of resolved to learn to live with the problem. But this year I found some websites on the internet with information from people who had beaten the problem so I spent 6 months trying a range of products that they recommended. I purchased many of the products on the internet and had them posted to me from America to Australia at great expense.
I tried so many things that I cannot be certain whether it was the combination of products that worked in the end or not. But what I can tell you is that this product seemed to make a very radical difference very quickly. It is the only product that I am certain kills the bugs in the wash. This is important to me as my clothing and bedding seemed to be the last battleground with the mites. After ten years I had mostly eradicated them from other areas of my house but I found that I kept reinfecting myself until I started using kleen free. I have only been using kleen for around one month.
I wish I had received this advice when I first got the problem. In fact one of the websites that I followed said that Kleen Free didn't work for them so I didn't bother to try it until I read testimonials on the Kleen Free website that sounded truthful. I doubted that it was going to make a shred of difference though when I bought it.
Again, I'm not certain it will work for you. We are all amateurs out there trying things through trial and error and I'm sure there are a million bugs out there that respond to different products differently. I just know that it worked for my bugs. The fact that it is non toxic is so important. I was using products that I knew were toxic but I had decided that I would take the risk and use the other products anyway because I was so desperate to get rid of the bugs.
If I had to start from scratch again, I would do this:
Cover your mattress and pillows in mattress and pillow protectors that are properly sealed (ones recommended for bed bugs etc, not the flimsy dust mite ones), or wrap in thick plastic and seal with thick tape. You'll get nowhere until you start doing this. Spray the mattress with Kleen Free first though!
Get rid of anything that is non-essential that you could live without (furniture, clothing, books etc.). And when I say "get rid of", I mean throw in the bin - do not donate to charities or sell on ebay - don't pass the problem onto someone else. I threw out 95% of my clothes and ALL my furniture. This was hard to do because I collect vintage clothing and it is hard to replace. I threw out all furniture because the bugs can go in deep and it seemed too hard to keep cleaning, vacuuming my favourite couch etc. I don't regret it. But I highly recommend not buying any new furniture until you have full confidence you have eliminated the problem, and if you do buy something, choose something you can wipe down with few crevices (like plastic chairs etc). (I did this before I came across Kleen Free)
Think of the creatures as you would dust. Wherever dust can reside, so can they. However difficult dust is to eliminate, so are they. This may seem extreme, and if you've only had the problem for a short while, you might think my advice is over the top - it is not. This "dust" also likes to breed! And can do so very quickly. What may start off as a minor problem can become a major and expensive problem within a week. Think of them as breeding dust that can lay eggs that can survive for years. When they do hatch, it takes them around a week to mature and start breeding again. So do the math... you could have millions within a week. And these are worse than dust because you can't see them and they can scurry away very quickly.
Vacuum clean EVERY DAY and everywhere. Use a vacuum with a hepa filter. Throw the bag out everyday if you can afford it. If not, put the bag in a plastic zip-lock back and put that bag in another zip-lock bag and put that bag in the freezer. (My experience makes me think that freezers kill mites but not their eggs). Handle the bag with disposable gloves.
Note: Try not to reinfect anything (as a general rule).
Wash your bedding everyday (in kleen free). Only use towels and clothing once and wash immediately. Put washing in a freezer (or sealed bags) until you can wash them.
Clean (with Kleen free) all areas where you plan to put your clean clothes, bedding etc. (cupboards, drawers etc)
Vacuum your whole house including floors, walls etc as much and often as you can. (This includes shoes).
Tell yourself that this will take you six months to beat! And that it requires planning, persistence and patience - (make that your mantra when you think it is unbearable and no believes you!!!). If it takes less than 6 months it will be a bonus. Also, tell yourself that it might take a month of mad cleaning before you start to notice a difference.
Follow the instructions on the kleen free bottle - bathe in it, spray the whole house etc for the first week then every second day in the second week.
Even if you don't buy this product, the vacuuming and washing of clothes (or disposal) is absolutely essential.
In fact, when I got bitten while wearing an item of clothing (before I discovered Kleen Free), I would take the item of clothing off immediately and throw it in the bin. I also did this with bedding. I would ask myself whether it is worth the trouble of trying to wash the bugs out or not... what is more costly? I bought myself heaps of cheap blankets, sheets and pillows I was willing to throw away every so often... but with Kleen Free, hopefully you won't have to do that. (I stopped doing it when I discovered this product!) I threw out expensive woolen coats etc. too. It's best to wash your clothing in the hottest water possible and in the hottest drier, so I started buying synthetic clothing that could handle such temperatures. Try to buy cheap, synthetic clothing and don't buy too much... throw it out if you're getting bitten too much.
Psychologically, what worked for me was that I tried to keep some kind of tally of how many bites I was getting on a daily basis. At first it was 50, then 20ish then 5, etc. As annoying as five new bites a night is, as least you know it's less than it was last month, so what you are doing is working, so persevere! I remember I used to count how many bites I'd get on the way to work... usually three or four, then down to two, then one. Then one day I remembered that I hadn't counted them for a couple of days. That equalled NO BITES on the way to work! Sure, I was being bitten at night still, but they were disappearing VERY slowly but surely.
As I write this review I am awaiting another bottle of Kleen Free to come from the USA. I didn't follow the instructions correctly when I first bought the product and I ran out of the product very quickly. I also didn't take the baths etc. (because I don't have a bath) I just bought myself an inflatable one on ebay! I have been getting the occasional bite (one these last three weeks). But I know it's because I have reinfected myself with something I haven't treated. I only wash my clothes in Kleen Free now, and I'm saving all that I have left for my washing. When I do the whole program properly, I will amend this review.
I'm writing this review because I feel compelled to help people who need somewhere to start. I know if I post on a bird mite board somewhere people might think I work for the company and not take my review seriously, so I'm posting here.
Good luck to those of you who have had the misfortune of a bird mite infestation!
Later edit:
I just read the review above mine that talked about a bedbug crawling straight through the product. I agree that that would be extremely disconcerting. My bug problem was probably a type of mite, not a bedbug. I don't know if that makes a difference to the effectiveness of the product. If you do have an "invisible" biting mite problem like I did, I would chance this product... it's a relatively cheap low risk. I'm only adding this footnote because if I had come across the negative review and not given it a go that would have been a shame and I wouldn't be experiencing the relief I'm experiencing now.
If you want to check out the ingredients of this product for product comparison's sake, do a google search by including the name of this (or any) product with "MSDS" (Material Safety Data Sheet). All companies by law, must list the ingredients and safety requirements of the product. You will then have the knowledge to make your own judgement. This information is abundantly available on the internet.

Eco Living Friendly, ELF for Bed Bugs, Ready to Use, 128oz (1 Gallon) Review

Eco Living Friendly, ELF for Bed Bugs, Ready to Use, 128oz (1 Gallon)

Having chronic allergies to toxic chemicals and household exposures, I decided to give natural ELF for Bed Bugs a try with some skepticism after a recent alarming outbreak. I am now spraying ELF for Bed Bugs as directed in every room that I detected and suspected Bed Bugs. I also tested the solution on my forearm without any reaction. It has no chemical smell and doesn't affect my allergies. So far, there have been no new bites or blood spots on my sheets in the morning! But I have found bed bug remains to vacuum up by the back edge of my headboard.
I have tried to follow the directions carefully and treated the entire surfaces of my Mattress and box springs, on every side...then sprayed my bed frame, head board, foot board, carpeting, and the rest of the furniture like they said. I also noticed a couple of cracks near the wall outlets and corners that look like possible nesting areas, so I was very careful to spray without directly wetting the live plugs.
The instructions also had me spray and inspect all my furniture, baseboards, curtains, pictures, especially furniture just gotten from somewhere else (they say that this is one of the more common ways that the Bed Bugs arrive on the scene). In my case, I had just moved some things back from the lake house. At first it seemed like a nuisance, but it really is better being clean, organized, and Bed Bug Free again!
I sprayed the solution everywhere the bugs can hide and have repeated every day now. I'm going to spray every day for a week. Then as the directions say, use it every other day for another week. That makes sense to me, because as eggs may hatch, and they probably will, that should knock out the new babies and cut the cycle.
Another great benefit I was happy to discover is that ELF safely kills fleas and mites without inflaming the old hot spots on one of our dogs. That has been truly amazing and a relief to him, so I'm going to recommend ELF to our Vet and anyone who wants to safely kill small aggravating bugs dead!
