This summer, my area received record rainfall and with it came record numbers of mosquitos that seemed particularly ravenous. And my 3 year old daughter is apparently particularly delicious!
I didn't like the idea of covering her in DEET every time she ventured out into our backyard. But other non-DEET repellants that I've tried in the past have performed very badly (basically, not at all).
But the EcoSmart repellant contains some key organic ingredients esp. Geraniol (derived from Geraniums, I believe) that really work.
I've seen her swarmed by mosquitos before being sprayed and then after I sprayed her I watched a lone mosquito try for about 5 minutes to bite her before finally flying off. (no worries, if that bugger had actually landed on her I would have squashed it before it could bite her!)
Even my father, who usually swears by DEET, tried spraying it on one leg, but not the other and definitely noticed a difference in the level of "attention" each received.
Only 2 minor complaints:
1) be careful on open cuts, it can sting a little since it contains alcohol. Nothing major, but little ones will complain a bit.
2) the bottle does NOT spray upside down. So when you're self-applying, it can be awkward to do your own legs.
But I strongly recommend it. It even smells nice (especially compared to normal, nasty repellant smells)

(More customer reviews)I just moved this year into a place in the woods and forgot how many bugs there could be in the house. This worked as a foundation spray that cut down the amount of bugs getting in the house. It says it lasts through rains and it does. I've sprayed only twice this year (but we've had record rainfall in WI this year). It doesn't work with mosquitos, so I had to add a fog for that. It did eliminate earwigs, ants, most spiders, beetles, millipedes, etc.
I saw that someone used this ON their plants - I almost did that too, but it didn't sound like I should do that based on the label directions. The same brand makes another product for that labelled "Garden Insect Killer". Some of the ingredients are similar, but the garden insect killer is a pump spray and has only plant oils in it, where this one has a few other ingredients and is a spray that attaches to a garden hose (more concentrated). The garden one works well but has to be reapplied more often (than other sprays I have used) due to watering. But I had to spray something on my basil this year and this was the only product that I could spray directly on something I would be eating later. Works well too.
