I'm a NYC'er. In the past decade, bedbugs have made an (unfortunate) resurgence. To make a long story short; they're the most annoying, insidious pest. Unlike roaches, bedbugs have NOTHING to do with keeping your apartment clean. It can happen to ANYONE. Once you have them, you don't notice them at first, as they're sooooo small. But you'll start scratching. When they become adults, again - you still really won't see them, because they come out at dawn. They're in & out. Once you've reached for the light-switch - they're gone.
Then (oy!) you look at your sheets, and you might see little (red - blood) dots, or maybe even a couple. BUT, when you pull off the sheets in horror, and look at the SEAM areas.... you're gonna be sick.
The first impulse is to reach for the 'bug spray,' usually roach killer. Uh un. Don't work.
When you've got them, that means they've gotten IN to your; mattress, sheets, carpets, clothes...EVERYWHERE.
There are chemicals that DO work (and ones that DON'T) BEDLAM PROFESSIONAL BED BUG INSECTICIDE is one that DOES.
FYI; here in NYC, you can even get bedbugs by sitting on a subway BENCH. Someone has them, and while you're sitting, they fall off them, and come to you. UGH!
Knowing that (and once having a HORRIBLE problem with them at my grandma's who (naturally) thought we were attacking her cleanliness), I know what the hell it can be to deal with them, and get rid of them.
I like to err on the side of caution. While I DON'T have them, I always want to have a bedbug insecticide on hand. Every few months, I do a light misting - of all my furniture, and in my closets - just to be safe. BEDLAM is a GREAT product to have on hand, in addition to using as a first line offensive weapon.
The insecticide itself is NOT harmful to mammals (that's you, and Fido, or your cat). That DOESN'T mean spray indiscriminately. BEDLAM IS dangerous to fishes, and amphibians (fishy's & salamanders, etc.), so if you have them, make sure they're safely away when you spray.
No one expects this to happen to them, and like most - you're embarrassed if it does happen. You DON'T want to tell anyone, but you DO need info.If you DO have an infestation, (depending on how severe) you might have to throw your mattress out. You need to take ALL your clothes/sheets and BOIL them clean. You can call a professional (and, if it's that bad - call them!) , or you can arm yourself with an insecticide arsenal that woks. BEDLAM & Sterifab & JT Easton's KILLS BEDBUGS RED LABEL - NOT blue! (that last one - JT - that's the name on the bottle. Those 3 are probably the best (be careful with the JT. It's strong, powerful, and if you spray it on something your about to wear (let it dry overnight), it CAN cause skin burns.
Any professional will tell you these 3 are the best.
Here's to hoping you DON'T need this stuff (but if you do).....
